Elementary School Storytelling Competition Rules

A. Registration Fee

  1. The registration fee is Rp. 60,000.00 (plus an additional W.O. fee of Rp20,000.00)
  2. Those who walkout may not reclaim the W.O. fee.

B. Competition Rules

  1. Competitors must attend the Technical Meeting held online on Saturday, 26 October 2024.
  2. All competition events will be held offline at Gonzaga College High School from Saturday, November 2, 2024, to Friday, November 8, 2024.
  3. Competitors are elementary school students in Grade 4 to Grade 6.
  4. Each school is allowed a maximum of 3 representatives.
  5. Competitors will compete individually.
  6. Competitors must follow the set theme “The Spirit of Youth: An Adventure in Finding Courage” through Inspiring Bedtime Stories.
  7. Competitors must provide a list of properties (chairs/tables) which needs to be prepared by the venue at least one week before the competition.
  8. Competitors are encouraged to bring their own costumes and properties (aside from properties mentioned in line 6).
  9. Competitors must be able to prepare their own properties without help by parents or teachers or other third parties.
  10. Competitors are given 3 to 5 minutes to perform.
  11. Competitors  must wear the ID CARD provided by the Gonzaga Festival 2024 Committee.

C. Competition Systematics

  1. Each competitor must make a script for their story, which they will then have to print three times, one for each judge.
  2. Each competitor must arrive 1 hour before the competition to re-register.
  3. The competition consists of only one round.
  4. The order of appearance for each competitor will be determined randomly by the committee during re-registration.
  5. Competitors who have arrived are required to wait in the waiting room until they are called to perform.
  6. Competitors are given 2 to 3 minutes to prepare themselves prior to performing.
  7. Competitors are given 3 to 5 minutes to tell their story.
  8. No one is allowed to enter the competition room during a performance until it is finished.
  9. Competitors begin when the designated timekeeper raises the “Start” sign. The timekeeper will then raise another sign to indicate that 3 minutes have passed and one final time for 5 minutes.
  10. Competitors are not allowed to read off of notes while performing.
  11. Competitors’ work must not contain sensitive subjects, such as ethnicity, religion, race, and pornography.
  12. The judges will nominate the best competitor as Best Storyteller. Additionally, the judges will nominate Runner-up I, Runner-up II.
  13. The judges’ decision will be final and uncontestable.
  14. The plaque will be awarded after the competition is finished, and the judging will take place on the same day.

D. Scoring Rubric

  1. Competitors will be scored based on the following criteria:
  1. In-depth Understanding of Story
  2. Audience Engagement
  3. Speaking
  4. Pacing
  5. Appropriateness
  6. Properties
  7. Duration
  1. If two or more contestants achieve the same score, priority will be given to the contestant which achieved a higher score in the “In-depth Understanding of Story” criteria. If the contestants also achieved equal scoring in that criteria, other criterias will be put into consideration in descending order.

E. Prize

Best Storyteller : Plaque + Certificate + Rp. 1,000,000.00

Runner-Up I : Plaque + Certificate + Rp. 700,000.00

Runner-Up II : Plaque + Certificate + Rp. 400,000.00
