Junior High School Storytelling Competition Rules

Registration Fee

  1. The registration fee is Rp. 80,000.00 with an additional walkout fee of Rp20,000.00
  2. Those who walk out may not reclaim the walkout fee

Competition Rules

  1. Participants must attend the technical meeting held online on 25 October 2025
  2. All competition events will be held offline at Gonzaga College High School from Saturday November 8, 2025, to Friday, November 14, 2025
  3. Participants are junior high school students in Grade 7 to Grade 9
  4. Each school is allowed a maximum of 3 representatives.
  5. Participants will compete individually.
  6. Participants must follow the set theme : Awaken the Spirit: Ignite the Will through Indonesian Heroes
  7. Participants must provide a list of properties, such as chairs or tables, which need to be prepared by the venue at least one week before the competition
  8. Participants are encouraged to bring their own costumes and properties, aside from the properties mentioned in number 7
  9. Participants must be able to prepare their own properties without help from parents, teachers, or other third parties
  10. Participants are given 5 to 7 minutes to perform
  11. Participants must wear the ID CARD provided by the Gonzaga Festival 2025 Committee
  12. Participants are not allowed to receive any assistance from parents, teachers, or other third parties while they are presenting their story
  13. Participants are not allowed to use a presentation as a form of property

Competition Systematics

  1. The storytelling will be done in English
  2. Each participant must build the script for their story, which they will then have to print three times, one for each judge
  3. Each participant must arrive 1 hour before the competition to re – register
  4. The competition consists of only one round
  5. The order of the performance will be determined randomly by the committee during re – registration
  6. Participants who have arrived are required to wait in the waiting room until they are called to perform
  7. Participants are given 1 to 2 minutes to prepare themselves prior to performing
  8. Participants are given 5 to 7 minutes to tell their story
  9. No one is allowed to enter the competition room during a performance until it is finished
  10. Participants begin when the designated timekeeper raises three flags. The timekeeper will first raise a green flag to indicate that the participant may begin their story. The timekeeper will show a yellow flag when 5 minutes have elapsed and a red flag will be an indicator that time is up
  11. Participants are not allowed to read from notes while performing
  12. Participants’ work must not contain sensitive subjects, such as ethnicity, religion, race, or others
  13. The judges will nominate the best participant as Best Storyteller. Additionally, the judges will nominate Runner – up I, Runner – up II
  14. The judges will proceed to evaluate and determine the winners after all of the performances. The judges’ decision will be final and uncontestable
  15. The plaque will be awarded after the competition is finished

Scoring Rubric

  1. Participants will be scored based on the following criteria:
    • In – depth Understanding of Story
    • Audience Engagement
    • Speaking
    • Pacing
    • Appropriateness
    • Properties
    • Duration
  1. If two or more contestants achieve the same score, priority will be given to the contestant who achieved a higher score in the “In – depth Understanding of Story” criteria. If the contestants also achieved equal scoring in that criterion, other criteria will be put into consideration in descending order.

Prize

Best Storyteller : Plaque + Certificate + Rp1.200.000,00

Runner-Up I : Plaque + Certificate + Rp900.000,00

Runner-Up II : Plaque + Certificate + Rp600.000,00
