The main goal of this competition is to inspire students who have a passion for English speech, as well as to give them the opportunity and platform to present their talents in front of an audience. The English speech competition encourages students to practice their English fluency skills, naturally improving their pronunciation, intonation, vocabulary, and overall communication skills where they have to prove their point whilst being confident and eloquent. Gonzaga College has decided to uphold this competition so that students are able to express themselves, practice sportsmanship, and push themselves to gain a new and beneficial experience.
1. Participant Rules
–Participants of the English Speech Competition Gonzaga Festival 2026 are students who are currently enrolled in middle school (SMP) and can be verified by proof of an ID card or Surat Keterangan Sekolah (SKS) issued by the participating school.
–The English Speech Competition is an individual competition.
—Each school may send a maximum of 2 students to participate in the competition.
—Participants must wear a batik shirt.
—Participants must arrive 30 minutes before the speech competition begins.
—Each participant is allowed to bring 1 or 2 companions as supporters. Supporters will sit away from the participants (Supporters will seat in the back row, while participants will seat in the front row).
—Audience members must remain quiet during the performance of each speech.
2. Competition Rules
—The duration of the speech is a minimum of 5 minutes and a maximum of 7 minutes (including self-introduction).
—Participants must perform their speech within the allotted time. Participants will be forced to stop once the time is up.
—Participants are given only one chance to perform their speech. Participants are NOT permitted to ask for a retry.
—During the performance, participants are NOT permitted to read from a script.
—Participants are permitted to create and bring a mind map of the key topics to be discussed in their speech to help them write their speech.
—Participants must submit a soft copy of their speech script one day before the competition, and a hard copy must be submitted on the day of the competition.
—Participants are STRICTLY PROHIBITED from making any changes to their speech script after the deadline of the submission. Any changes will result in point deductions or disqualification.
—Participants who want to go to the bathroom or go outside must be acknowledged by a committee member.
—The three participants with the highest scores will be declared the winners based on the judges’ total scores.
3. Competition Requirements
—A Technical Meeting will be held online on Friday, 4th of September 2026, via Zoom, which will be provided by the committee members.
—All competition sessions will be held in person at Gonzaga College Senior High School from Saturday, 19 September 2026 – Friday, 25 September 2026
—Participants shall prepare and deliver an original speech on the theme “Realizing Hopes and Dreams in Dark Times“
—Participants will create their speech text in Google Docs using Times New Roman, size 12pt and a 16pt size title, and be sent to a Google Form given by the committee with the title format: Full Name_School of Origin_Speech Competition GF 26.
—The script will be submitted as a PDF file.
—Speeches must not contain elements of ethnicity, religion, race, or intergroup relations (SARA) or hate speech.
—Each script must contain a declaration of originality. Participants are NOT permitted to use any form of generative AI (Artificial Intelligence) or plagiarize in any way when writing their script.
—Supervising teachers will be permitted to enter the competition room.
—The speech timer will start as soon as the participant starts talking.
—The committee will provide written and color coded signs to remind participants when there are 4 minutes (Green), 2 minutes (Blue), and 1 minute (Yellow) remaining, as well as when the timer has ended (Red).
—The decisions of the committee and judges are final and cannot be contested.
